FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 5/5/08
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team captured their first NJCAA Regional III Championship since 1970 on Saturday posting a team score of 195.5 points to outdistance the field of seven teams at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY over the weekend. Cobleskill won six individual and three relay regional championships led by senior sprinter David Suarez, Hauppauge, NY, Hauppauge High School, who established a pair of new program records winning the 100 Meter Dash in a time of 10.99 seconds and taking the 200 Meter Dash in a time of 22.09 seconds. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Freshman Angela Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, captured the NJCAA Region III Championship in the Pole Vault by establishing a new program record in the event clearing a height of 8’11 ¾” at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY over the weekend. The Fighting Tigers won three individual and one relay championship at the meet posting a team score of 108 point to place third in the seven team field. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s tennis program posted a 5-4 road victory over Mountain Valley Conference rival Adirondack Community College on Thursday to close the regular season with a 6-3 overall record including a 3-1 mark in league play. Cobleskill then posted a team score of nine points to place fourth overall at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament hosted by Adirondack Community College in Glens Falls, NY over the weekend. Senior Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, lost in the Finals of the regional tournament closing his season with an impressive 10-1 record on the season.
Senior Andy Kincaid, Horseheads, NY, Horseheads High School, fired a round of 78 on Saturday to place third in a field of 62-players at the 2008 Red Baron Invitational hosted by Corning Community College at the Mark Twain Golf Club in Corning, NY. Cobleskill placed seventh in the field of 12 teams with a team score 353. On Sunday the Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 333 to finish seventh in a 12 team field at the 2008 Tompkins-Cortland Community College hosted at the Elm Tree Golf Course in Dryden, NY. Andy Kincaid once again was the low man for the Orange & Black with a round of 78. |
