FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 2/11/08
The Fighting Tiger men’s basketball team reached the twenty-win plateau for the thirteenth time in program history this week by posting three Mountain Valley Conference victories this week defeating visiting Mohawk Valley Community College on Tuesday by a 96-82 score, then by posting a home win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday by score of 94-82 before taking to the road on Saturday to defeat Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, NY 86-68. Senior power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, averaged 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the victories as Cobleskill improved to 20-3 on the year with a 10-2 mark in league play.
The Cobleskill women’s basketball program notched pair of Mountain Valley Conference wins beating Fulton-Montgomery Community College on the road in Johnstown, NY on Thursday by a score of 72-56 then defeating visiting Adirondack Community College on Saturday by an 88-43 margin. Freshman guard/forward Jessica Byerwalters, Coeymans Hollow, NY, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, averaged 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the victories as the Orange & Black improved to 19-4 overall on the year including a 9-3 record versus league opponents. Saturday’s win overall Adirondack was also Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles 100th career victory with the Fighting Tigers. Suttles is currently 100-35 during his tenure directing the program.
Freshman sprinter Leon Thompson, Manhattan, NY, Fredrick Douglas Academy, set a new men’s indoor track & field program record in the 60 Meter Dash for the Fighting Tiger at the 2008 Cornell University Invitational hosted by Cornell University on Saturday in Ithaca, NY. Thompson placed seventh in the event with a time of 7.13 seconds.
The Cobleskill women’s indoor track & field program competed at the 2008 Cornell University Invitational hosted by Cornell University on Saturday in Ithaca, NY. Senior NJCAA All-American Jen Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School was the team’s top individual performer placing eleventh overall in the Long Jump with an effort of 16’10 ½”.
