FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 2/4/08
The Fighting Tiger men’s basketball team posted a pair of Mountain Valley Conference home victories on the week defeating SUNY Delhi by a score of 76-66 on Wednesday then making quick work of Schenectady Community College on Saturday by a score of 80-51. Freshman guard Nyquan Bellamy, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, scored 13 points in the win over SUNY Delhi then hit for 19 points in the victory over Schenectady. The Fighting Tigers are currently 17-3 overall on the season with a 7-2 mark in league play.
The Cobleskill women’s team won two-of-three games during the week dropping a 49-45 road decision to SUNY Delhi on Monday in Mountain Valley Conference play then stopping visiting conference rival Schenectady Community College on Thursday by a 54-21 margin. The Fighting Tigers closed the week’s action by traveling to Buffalo, NY to defeat Erie Community College on Saturday by a score of 63-37. Freshman Shelley Pierson, Watervliet, NY, Watervliet High School, scored 18 points in the win over Schenectady Community College then tallied 12 in the victory over Erie Community College. Cobleskill is currently 17-3 overall on the season with a 6-2 mark in conference play.
Men’s indoor track & field team member freshman Richard Garnett, Yonkers, NY, Roosevelt High School, qualified for the 2008 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 1000 Meter Run at the 2008 Syracuse University Invitational hosted by Syracuse University at Manley Fieldhouse in Syracuse, NY on Saturday. Garnett placed fifth overall in the event establishing a new program record in the event with a time of 2:35.85. The 2008 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Eastern Illinois University on Friday March 7th and Saturday March 8th.
Freshman distance runner Meghan LaPoint, Schenectady, NY, Colonie High School, established a Fighting Tiger indoor track & field program record in the 3000 Meter Run at the 2008 Syracuse University Invitational hosted by Syracuse University at Manley Fieldhouse in Syracuse, NY on Saturday. LaPoint covered the distance in a time of 11:30.41 to set the record.
Fighting Tiger senior swimmer Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, won the 1650 Freestyle at the 2008 Genesee Community College Invitational hosted by Genesee Community College on Saturday in Batavia, NY. Holstead’s time of 23:10.76 lowered her NJCAA National Championship Qualifying Seed Time in the event by 1:19.67.
