FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/14/08
The Fighting Tiger men’s outdoor track & field program turned in a dominant performance at the 2008 Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday. Cobleskill won five individual and two relay events, posted 19 NJCAA National Championship qualifying performances and established four new program records on the day. Freshman Joseph Appah, Manhattan, NY, Walton High School, won the 400 Meters for Cobleskill establishing a new program record in the event with a national qualifying time of 49.87 seconds. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked second in the current NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior NJCAA All-American sprinter/jump Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, met the NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Qualifying Standards in the 200 Meters and 400 Meters at the 2008 Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday. Morgan placed fifth in the 200 Meters with a time of 28.22 seconds and sixth in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:05.94. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll for the second consecutive week.
The Fighting Tiger men’s tennis team posted a 5-4 home victory over defending Mountain Valley Conference Champion Mohawk Valley Community College in league action on Monday. Senior Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, won at the number three singles slot by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 in the victory. Cobleskill is currently 3-0 overall with a 2-0 conference record on the season to date.
The Cobleskill baseball team split a pair of home doubleheaders during the week sweeping Adirondack Community College in Mountain Valley Conference play on Monday by scores of 2-1 and 12-4 then fell to Jamestown Community College on Saturday by scores of 6-0 and 5-4. Freshman Matt Greene, Albany, NY, Colonie High School, held Adirondack to only one unearned run and three hits in the opener on Monday striking out eight while walking none. The Fighting Tigers are currently 8-9 overall on the season with a 4-0 mark in conference action.
Freshman pitcher Sheri Boardman, Sheffield, MA, Housatonic High School, recorded a pair of shutout victories over host Columbia-Greene Community College in Mountain Valley Conference play by scores of 9-0 and 7-0. Boardman threw a four-hitter in the first game then came back with a two-hitter in the nightcap. Cobleskill then dropped a pair of decisions to visiting Broome Community College on Wednesday 6-2 and 9-8. Cobleskill is currently 2-2 overall with a 2-0 record in conference play.
The Fighting Tiger men’s lacrosse team split a pair of road decisions during the week falling to Hudson Valley Community College in Mountain Valley Conference play on Wednesday 11-8 then traveling to Erie, PA on Saturday to defeat Mercyhurst Northeast College by a 13-11 tally. Senior attackman Matt Hughes, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, scored five goals in the win on Saturday to help the Orange & Black to improve to 3-5 on the season with a 0-2 mark in conference action.
The Fighting Tiger golf team opened the season placing sixth in a field of seven teams on Friday at the Mohawk Valley Community College Invitational with a score of 388 then finishing second on Saturday at the Broome Community College Invitational in a field of seven teams posting a team score of 356 on the day. Senior Andy Kincaid, Horseheads, NY, Horseheads High School, placed tenth on Friday with a score of 83 then tied for ninth place on Saturday with a score of 80.
