FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/21/08
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team posted 14 NJCAA Division III National Championship Qualifying performances at the 2008 All-American Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday. Senior Emille Barnett, South Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, established a new program record in the 800 Meters winning the event in a time of 1:55.99 for the Fighting Tigers who are currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior multi-event athlete Kayla Evers, Oneonta, NY, Lighthouse Academy, won the Hammer Throw at the 2008 Bronco Mid-Week Track & Field Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY for the Fighting Tigers women’s outdoor track & field team on Tuesday. Evers met the NJCAA Division III Qualifying Standard in the event with a toss of 110’1”. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s lacrosse team posted wins in two of three home contests this week defeating Cayuga Community College 18-3 on Monday, losing to league rival SUNY Delhi on Thursday 16-15 in overtime then defeating Genesee Community College on Sunday by a 17-11 margin. Senior midfielder Andrew Abbott, Onondaga, NY, Corcoran High School, was a major offensive factor during the week for Cobleskill with 11 goals and three assists. The Orange & Black are currently 5-6 overall on the season with a 0-3 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play.
Senior golfer Andy Kincaid, Horseheads, NY, Horseheads High School, posted the team’s two lowest scoring individual rounds of the year firing a 72 to place second at the Jamestown/Olean Invitational on Friday followed by a round of 77 on Saturday at the Jamestown Community College Invitational to place fifth. The Fighting Tigers fired a team score of 341 on Friday to place fifth at Jamestown/Olean then record a score of 337 to place sixth at the Jamestown Community College Invitational.
The Cobleskill men’s tennis team dropped a pair of 5-4 decisions during the week losing on the road to Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Thursday before falling to visiting Broome Community College on Saturday. Senior captain Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, remained unbeaten at the number three singles slot, 6-0 on the year, winning at Mohawk by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 then winning versus Broome by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
The Fighting Tiger baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh innings on Sunday to defeat visiting Clinton Community College 7-6 after dropping the opener by a 4-3 margin. Senior centerfielder Dan Beck, Rotterdam, NY, Schalmont High School, singled in the winning runs with one-out in the bottom of the inning to break a seven-game losing streak for Cobleskill. The Orange & Black are currently 11-16 overall on the season with a 5-9 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play.
The Cobleskill softball team took a pair of Mountain Valley Conference games on Thursday from Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY then lost three-of-four road contests over the weekend splitting with Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA on Saturday taking the first game 5-3 then losing the nightcap 5-1. Cobleskill then lost a pair to Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday by scores of 9-2 and 6-3. Freshman pitcher Danielle Lichwick, Westtown, NY, Minisink Valley High School, posted a both wins over Fulton-Montgomery on Thursday for the Fighting Tigers who are now 5-7 overall with a 4-4 record in conference play.
