COBLESKILL BASEBALL SWEPT BY MOHAWK VALLEY IN UTICA

The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team saw their current losing streak extended to six games as the Fighting Tigers dropped a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader to Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 9-5. The losses drop the Fighting Tigers to 10-15 overall on the season with a 5-7 mark versus league competition.
In the first game Cobleskill was one-hit by Hawk starter Jim Simmonds as freshman catcher Nate Shelton, Walton, NY, Walton High School, tallied the Orange & Black’s only hit of the day a one-out single in the top of the second inning. Shelton went 1-for-2 on the day while freshman pitcher Tom Wiener, Montrose, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, was a hard-luck loser for Cobleskill allowing only four hits in the contest.
In the nightcap, Cobleskill took a 5-3 advantage into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Hawks struck for six runs to put the contest out of reach. Senior third baseman Nick Poleto, Albany, NY, Colonie High School went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI while Tom Wiener in the designated hitter role went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Sunday April 20th when they host the Cougars of Clinton Community College for a NJCAA Region III Division III doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM. |
