Wiener also played in 31 games this season between the mound and the designated hitter position. The Montrose, NY native led the Orange & Black in hitting posting a .443 average going 39-for-88 to go with 18 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. Weiner also led the team: in doubles with 11, slugging percentage at .591 and on-base percentage at .548. The rookie right hander was also the team’s top pitching performer posting a 5-3 record in nine appearances with a 2.93 ERA. In 45 innings pitched this season Weiner struck out 28 batters.
Fighting Tiger Head Coach Bill Makarowski was extremely pleased with his players’ selection and spoke highly about their contributions to the team this season.
“Matt Greene did a little bit of everything for us this year pitching, playing second base, shortstop, in the outfield and never complained about his role. He developed into an exceptional lead-off hitter for us and was one of our go-to guys all year. Tom Weiner is a great person to have hitting in the four or five spot in the batting order and on the mound was our hardest thrower giving us a big inning eater because of his stamina as a starter.” |
