COBLESKILL BASEBALL DROPS PAIR TO JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
It was a rough Saturday afternoon for the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team as the Fighting Tigers dropped a pair of NJCAA Region III contests to visiting Jamestown Community College from Jamestown, NY at Fighting Tiger Field by scores of 6-0 and 5-4. The losses drop the Orange & Black to 8-9 overall on the season to date with a 3-5 mark versus NJCAA Region III Division III Competition.
In the opener the Cobleskill offense could only manage three hits off Jayhawk starter Mark Myott who went the distance in the contest for the visitors. Freshman designated hitter Tom Wiener, Montrose, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, was 1-for-3 on the afternoon for the Fighting Tigers including a double.
In the second game the Fighting Tigers trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when they exploded for four runs to tie the contest highlighted by two-run double off the bat of senior left fielder Tristan Massalay-Ellis, Flushing, NY, John Bowne High School, who was 2-for-4 on the day with a pair of RBI. Cobleskill then evened the score later on a two-out single by senior first baseman Matt Hansen, Southold, NY, Southold High School, who was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman shortstop/pitcher Matt Greene, Albany, NY, Colonie High School, was also 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Fighting Tigers.
The Jayhawks scored the winning run on a one-out double in the top of the seventh inning by second baseman Frank Jagoda off reliever Matt Greene. Jagoda then preserved the win in the bottom of the frame defensively. With Fighting Tiger runners on first and second with two-out the Jayhawk second baseman made a spectacular diving backhanded stab to force out Tristan Massalay-Ellis at second base and end Cobleskill’s rally.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday April 15th when they host Schenectady Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM. |
