FIGHTING TIGER BASEBALL SWEEPS MORRISVILLE STATE IN MVC PLAY
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s baseball team kept their Region III Division III Tournament hopes alive on Friday sweeping Mountain Valley Conference rival Morrisville State College in Cobleskill by scores of 3-2 and 8-5. With the victories the Fighting Tigers move to 10-20 overall with a 7-7 overall record in Region III Division III action.
In the first game it was the pitching of freshman Mike Disarno, Grand Island, NY, Grand Island High School, that was the difference in the game as the rookie hurler struck out ten Mustang hitters allowing the opposition to only four hits in the contest.
Cobleskill broke the game open with a three run second inning highlighted by senior centerfielder Mario Checchi Alstead, NH, Fall Mountain Regional High School, who singled home two runs then scored on a two-out single by senior Bill Rasi, Jefferson, NY, Jefferson High School.
In the second game the Fighting Tigers pounded out 11 hits to support freshman pitcher Matt Young, Delmar, NY, Bethlehem High School, who struck out nine hitters holding the visitors scoreless over the final three frames to give Cobleskill its first ten win season since 1994. Young also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.
Cobleskill catcher Tyler Hibsch, Strykersville, NY, Pioneer High School, also played a major role in the sweep of the Mustangs going 4-for-7 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBI for the Fighting Tigers.
The Fighting Tigers will next host the Twins of Columbia-Greene Community College on Tuesday May 3rd beginning at 2:00 PM in a Mountain Valley Conference/Region III Division III contest. |
