FIGHTING TIGER BASEBALL FALLS TO GENESEE CC 7-3 IN REGION III TOURNEY
The long road to Batavia, NY was not kind to the SUNY Cobleskill men’s baseball program yesterday as the team dropped a 7-3 decision to the host Genesee Community College Cougars in the opening round of the 2006 NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament. The Fighting Tigers close the season with an 18-17 overall record with a 15-6 mark versus Region III Division III opponents.
“We’re disappointed about the way the season ended because obviously you always want to keep playing,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Bill Makarowski. “Mike Disarno threw a very good ball game but we had some lapses in the field that cost us and offensively we couldn’t put things together. However we had a good season and we have nothing to be ashamed about when you look back on things. We’ll now get back out on the recruiting trail so we can continue to keep things heading in the right direction.”
The lone offensive highlight of the afternoon was freshman left fielder Danny DiLoreto, Tappen Zee, NY, Rockland High School, who belted a fourth inning two-run homer to put the Fighting Tigers on the board making the score 5-2 on the day. Senior pitcher Mike Disarno, Grand Island, NY, Grand Island High School, closed out his Cobleskill career with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate.
The 2006 season saw Cobleskill tie the program record for most wins in a season with 18, make their first regional tournament appearance since the 1995 season which was the last time the Fighting Tigers posted a winning season with a 14-9 overall record. Additionally the program posted the best NJCAA Region III Division III record in school history with a 15-6 season and the best Mountain Valley Conference program mark at 12-4.
