FIGHTING TIGER MEN TAKE STING OUT OF BROOME CC HORNETS 84-64
Using their trademark defense the SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball program made an important statement last night in the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium defeating the visiting Broome Community College Hornets by an 84-64 score. The victory pushed the Fighting Tigers’ overall record to 6-2 on the season.
“We were able to get into their shooters and as the game progressed it became increasingly tougher for them to score,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “After the early part of the first half we began to dominate the paint and our posts controlled the boards and did a great job of scoring inside. We’re getting better especially on the defensive end of the floor and tonight I think that we took an important step forward. Now we’ve got to get ready for a very tough Hudson Valley team on Friday night.”
Freshman power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, did major damage to the Hornets’ interior defense scoring 23 points to go with six rebounds in the contest while freshman center Jude Franck, Spring Valley, NY, Ramapo High School, came off the bench to score 18 points hitting on nine of 10 field goal attempts. Freshman point guard Harley Fuller turned in the best performance of his college career scoring 12 points to go with five rebounds and six assists while freshman guard Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, High School of Art & Design, continued his strong play with 17 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Cobleskill also received solid efforts from freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, with four points and 12 rebounds and from freshman reserve guard Devon Williams, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin K. Lane High School, who scored three points, passed out five assists and grabbed two rebounds on the night.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Friday December 1st when they host Mountain Valley Conference rival Hudson Valley Community College beginning at 7:00 PM.
