COBLESKILL MEN STORM BACK FOR 64-60 VICTORY OVER DELHI
In the long-running series between SUNY Cobleskill and Delhi Tech there are few things as satisfying as winning a game on the other team’s home floor. Last night in Delhi, NY the Fighting Tigers outmaneuvered the Broncos to claim a 64-60 Mountain Valley Conference victory snapping a two-game losing streak and sweeping the season series between the two programs. With the victory Cobleskill moves to 16-4 overall on the season with a 7-2 record in league play and are currently ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA National Poll.
Trailing by a 32-24 margin at the half the Fighting Tigers used tenacious half court defense to force 24 Bronco turnovers on the evening igniting the Cobleskill transition game to a 40-28 second half advantage. Leading by three-points with under a minute to play; Cobleskill twice defended Delhi set plays out of time out situations to secure the victory.
“This is an important victory because it reestablishes our young team’s confidence and momentum heading into the February stretch drive,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “Once again our defense was the key to winning. I thought during the second half we did an excellent job of shutting them down and using the additional offensive possessions to take control of the game.”
Fighting Tiger freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, once again played a major part in the victory posting his ninth double/double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds while senior swingman Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Family Academy High School, added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists on the evening. Cobleskill also received double digit scoring efforts from freshman center/forward Vladimir Colas, Warwick, NY, Warwick High School, who scored 13 points to go with five rebounds and four assists and from freshman guard Jayson Taylor, Deer Park, NY, Ossining High School, who added 10 points on the night.
Cobleskill also received strong play from freshman point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, who despite only scoring one point in the contest led the way with an eight assist, five rebound, two steal effort that included no turnovers in 34 minutes of action. Off the bench freshman center Jude Franck, Spring Valley, NY, Ramapo High School, scored five points and made three steals and freshman forward Ryan Greene, Richmondville, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, added five points to the team’s victory totals.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday February 3rd when they host the Royals of Schenectady Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference game with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
