COBLESKILL MEN POST 20TH WIN OVER ADIRONDACK CC 64-56
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team capped a productive week posting their third Mountain Valley Conference victory in a five-day period out battling visiting Adirondack Community College on Saturday by a score of 64-56 to return to the twenty-win plateau for the twelfth time in program history. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with a 20-4 overall mark including an 11-2 record in league play.
“After my return from sabbatical I made it very clear that winning twenty games was priority for us this season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “This was a typical late season Mountain Valley Conference: possession-for- possession, grind it out on offense, dig in on defense, battle on the backboard type of game. Winning twenty games is important because it is the recognized standard for excellence in college basketball and something that we as a program aspire to on a yearly basis. It is also important in terms of post season seeding which is something that we’re very interested in this time of year in Cobleskill once again this year.”
The Fighting Tigers subdued the Timberwolves behind the double barreled attack of senior swingman Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Family Academy High School, who scored 18 points to go with five rebounds and three assists and freshman guard Jayson Taylor, Deer Park, NY, Ossining High School, who also scored 18 points to go with three rebounds and two assists. Freshman point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, was also a major force in the victory posting his fourth consecutive game with double figures in assists with 13 assists in the game to go along with five points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
Cobleskill also continued to receive strong play from freshman center/forward Vladimir Colas, Warwick, NY, Warwick High School, who scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds and from freshman guard Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, High School of Art & Design, with six points, three assists and two rebounds off the Fighting Tiger bench. Freshman center Jude Franck, Spring Valley, NY, Ramapo High School, contributed four points and four rebounds in the win while freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, chipped in four points and seven rebounds for the Fighting Tigers.
The Orange & Black return to action on Tuesday February 13th when they host the Cougars of Holyoke Community College beginning at 7:00 PM.
