SUNY COBLESKILL MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO 2006-07
NJCAA ALL-REGION III DIVISION III TEAM
Two SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team members have been named to the 2007 All-NJCAA Region III Division III Team by the region’s coaches. Freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, was honored as a First Team selection while senior forward/guard Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Family Academy High School, was named to the Third Team. The Cobleskill duo led the Fighting Tigers to a 21-8 overall record on the season and a return to the NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament.
“We are extremely proud of what Stanley and Devon have accomplished individually and what they have helped us accomplish as a team this season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “Stanley is a warrior on the court and accomplishes things that you do not expect from someone his size and Devon has taken his game to a completely different level this season. Most importantly, these two young men are more obsessed with team accomplishments rather than individual statistics which is something that can never be undervalued.”
The 6’2” Francois proved to be one of the toughest interior players in the region this past season averaging 12.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game connecting on an impressive 144 of 239 attempts from the field for a 60.3% field goal shooting mark. The Suffern High School alumnus also established a new program record for charges taken in a single season with 24 on the year while posting 11 double/doubles in points and rebounds. During the season, Francois posted double figures in scoring 20 times for the Orange & Black and collected double figures in rebounds an addition 15 times during the year in 29 appearances.
A member of the Fighting Tigers 2005 NJCAA Regional Championship and NJCAA “Elite Eight” team, the 6’2” Moore’s return coincided with the return of Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy’s return from a sabbatical. The talented swingman displayed a diversified game and assumed a greater role for Cobleskill averaging 9.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game connecting on 101 of 214 shots from the field for a 47.2% shooting percentage in 28 games played this season.
Under the direction of Head Coach Kevin McCarthy Fighting Tiger players have earned: 35 All-Mountain Valley Conference, 30 NJCAA All-Region III, eight NJCAA All-Americans and two NJCAA Academic All-American honors.
FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S HOOPSTERS NAMED TO 2007 ALL-MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE TEAM
The Mountain Valley Conference announced today that four members of the SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team have earned spots on the 2007 All-Mountain Valley Conference Team. Freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, was named to the league’s First Team while senior guard-forward Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Family Academy High School, freshman guard Jayson Taylor, Deer Park, NY, Ossining High School, and freshman point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, were all named to the conference’s Third Team. The Cobleskill quartet led the Fighting Tigers to a 21-7 overall record on the season including an 11-5 mark in league competition and a return to the NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament. Cobleskill is currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.

In his rookie season Jayson Taylor gave Cobleskill solid perimeter play from the off-guard position as the Ossining High School alumnus averaged 12.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game connecting on a team leading 56 three-point field goals during the season. In 27 regular season contests, Taylor reached double figures in scoring 20 times.
From his point guard position Harley Fuller proved to be a capable floor general for the Fighting Tigers averaging 5.4 points, 6.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest. In 28 games the Gloversville native scored in double figures three times and had double figures in assists seven time. His 4.6-to-1 turnover-to-assist ratio was one of the best marks in program history.
“Our success this season is a direct result of the hard work and unselfishness these young men brought to our program this season,” said Mountain Valley Conference Coach-of-the-Year Kevin McCarthy. “Stanley, Devon, Jayson and Harley have had exceptional seasons and I was very pleased to see that they were all rewarded. When I came back from sabbatical this season; many people were curious about what kind of year we could have, given the fact that we had no returning players from last year. The contributions made by these four young men this season have played a major role in reestablishing our program and laying a solid foundation for the future.”
Cobleskill will next play on Friday March 2nd in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Championships hosted by Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY. The Fighting Tigers will play at 3:00 PM versus the winner of Tuesday night’s Mohawk Valley Community College/Finger Lakes Community College sub-regional contest. In all twelve teams have been selected and seeded to play in this year’s version of the tournament which will see the Quarterfinals thru Championship game played at Herkimer Community College from Friday March 2nd thru Sunday March 4th.
