BURNS NAMED FIGHTING TIGER ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today the senior Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, High School of Art & Design, a member of the college’s men’s basketball team has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.
The 6’1” senior guard was named the Most-Valuable-Player of the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Men’s Basketball Tournament over the weekend hosted by Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY as the number four seeded Fighting Tigers stormed to the program’s third Region III Division III Championship.
For the tournament, the Brooklyn, NY native averaged 11.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game converting on 12-of-28 shots from the field, 42.1%, including and impressive 6-of-11, 54.6%, from beyond the three-point line. Burns was also perfect from the free throw line in the tournament going 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
The Fighting Tigers are currently 25-6 overall on the season and will meet NJCAA Region XIX Champions of Middlesex Community College from Edison, NJ in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Thursday March 13th at 8:00 PM. The Colts are currently 27-3 overall on the season and ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
