SUNY COBLESKILL SEEDED IN REGION III DIVISION III MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FIELD
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team has been awarded a number four seed for the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament. The Fighting Tigers will receive a bye in the tournament’s sub-regional round scheduled to begin on Tuesday February 26th at the higher seeds home court. Cobleskill (22-6) will advance directly to Friday February 29th’s Quarterfinal Round hosted by Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY to meet the tournament’s number five seed the Lazers of Onondaga Community College (22-8) from Syracuse, NY and will play at either 1:00 PM or 3:00 PM. In all eleven teams have been selected and seeded to play in this year’s version of the tournament which will see the Quarterfinals thru Championship game played at Herkimer Community College from Friday February 29th thru Sunday March 2nd.
The tournament begins on Tuesday night when the number eleven seeded Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College of Watertown, NY (12-12) travel to Canandaigua, NY to meet the Lakers of Finger Lakes Community College (19-10). In other action the number ten seeded Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College (14-14) from Utica, NY will venture north to Plattsburgh, NY to meet the Cougars of Clinton Community College (16-11) while the number nine seeded Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery Community College (16-11) from Johnstown, NY will travel to Dryden, NY, to meet the number eight seeded Panthers of Tompkins-Cortland Community College (17-11).
Friday’s afternoon session will feature: the number one seeded Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College (29-0) versus the winner of the Tompkins Cortland Community College/Fulton Montgomery Community College game and the number four seeded Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill and Onondaga Community College game with starting times as yet to be determined.
The late session on Friday will see the host number two seeded Generals of Herkimer Community College (24-6), in action against the winner of the Clinton Country Community College/ Mohawk Valley Community College winner and number three seeded Broome Community College Hornets (19-9) of Binghamton, NY versus the winner of the Finger Lakes Community College/Jefferson Community College game. Game times will be determined later this week.
