FIGHTING TIGER MEN DOWN ADIRONDACK BY 86-68 MARGIN
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team posted their twentieth victory of the season on Saturday defeating Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, NY by an 86-68 score in Mountain Valley Conference play. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 20-3 overall on the season with a 10-2 mark in conference action.
“This is one of the goals that we set for ourselves as a program every year so this is an important benchmark for us to reach as we head into the stretch drive the next two weeks,” said Fighting Tigers Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “We’re entering a critical phase of the season where post-season seeding is on the line so we can’t enjoy this win too much because we’ve got six important games to play over the next twelve days.”
Senior Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, High School of Art & Design, scored a career high of 21 points to lead the Fighting Tigers in scoring as five Cobleskill players reached double figures in scoring versus the Timberwolves in the contest. Joining Burns in the scoring column were senior forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, who posted a double/double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, freshman guard Nyquan Bellamy, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, who scored 12 points, senior power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, who scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds and freshman guard Matt Williams, Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane High School, who scored 10 points.
Fighting Tiger senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, continued to orchestrate the Cobleskill attack to perfection with 10 assists to go with two points and two rebounds while freshman center Victor Ljuljojuraj, Yorktown Heights, NY, Lakeland High School, also turned in a another stellar effort off the Fighting Tiger bench with six points and five rebounds.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Tuesday February 12th when they host the Cougars of Holyoke Community College for an inter-regional contest with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Iorio Gymnasium.
TIGER NOTES: The Fighting Tigers have now posted thirteen twenty-win seasons under the direction of head coach Kevin McCarthy. Harley Fuller has now posted double figures in assists 12 times this season. The Fighting Tigers are currently averaging 83.0 points per game this season up from 73.4 points per game during the 2006-07 campaign. The 2007-08 NJCAA Region III Division III Men’s Championship Tournament will be held at Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY from Friday February 29th thru Sunday March 2nd.
