FIGHTING TIGER MEN SCUTTLE FMCC RAIDERS 94-82
Facing the high powered offense of visiting Fulton-Montgomery Community College at the Iorio Gymnasium last night, the SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team showed some offensive firepower of their own on the way to a 94-82 Mountain Valley Conference victory. The win improves the Fighting Tigers to 19-3 overall on the season with a 9-2 mark in MVC play.
“Fulton-Montgomery is going to blitz you offensively. They are going to push the tempo, shoot the ball very quickly and then pound the offensive glass so if you can’t score points they will beat you,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “As we get closer to the post season the teams that have the best chance to win are the teams that can win versus a number of different styles of play. Tonight we did an excellent job of passing the ball and attacking the basket. We need to improve on protecting our defensive board but overall I am very pleased with our effort tonight.”
The Fighting Tigers flexed their offensive muscles on the inside as senior power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, led all scorers with 26 points to go with eight rebounds and senior forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, scored 17 points, took down 17 rebounds and blocked three shots on the evening.
Cobleskill also received fine all-around efforts from: senior swingman Brian Leadbetter, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, who scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, freshman guard Matt Williams, Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane High School, who scored 10 points and passed out four assists and senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, who scored eight points to go with 11 assists. Freshman guard Nyquan Bellamy, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, also chipped in six points and two assists in the victory.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Queensbury, NY, to meet the Timberwolves Adirondack Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference game with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: Stanley Francois’s effort moved the senior forward to fifth on the program’s all-time rebound list with 467 while pushing his career point total to 606 making only the seventh player in program history to score 600 points and grab 400 rebounds.
