FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S LACROSSE DEFEATS GENESEE 17-11

After failing to hold a 10-1 first period lead on Thursday afternoon in a heartbreaking 16-15 overtime home loss to SUNY Delhi; the SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team made an 11-5 halftime lead standup versus Genesee Community College on Sunday at the Cobleskill Lacrosse Complex, dispatching the visitors from Batavia, NY by a 17-11 margin. The victory gives the Fighting Tigers a 5-6 overall record on the season their most since the 1988 campaign when they finished 7-6 on the season.
Senior midfielder Andy Abbott, Onondaga, NY, Corcoran High School, equaled his season high for goals with five in the contest while freshman attackman Jake Hutchins, East Greenbush, NY, Columbia High School, added two goals and two assists on the day. Before a second period injury ended his day senior attackman Matt Hughes, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, scored thee goals for the Fighting Tigers complimented by freshman attackman Brendan Wemssen, Seaford, NY, Seaford High School, who scored three goals and passed out two assists.
Cobleskill also received scoring efforts from: freshman midfielder Hunter D’Abdraia, Albany, NY, New Paltz High School, who scored a goal and passed out two assists, freshman midfielder Matt Pierce, Ogdensburg, NY, Heuvelton High School, who scored two goals and senior defender Mike Steve, Syracuse, NY, Nottingham High School, who had one goal in the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Rob McDonald, Amherst, NY, Amherst High School, was also a major factor in the net for the Orange & Black on the afternoon with 17 saves in the game.
Cobleskill returns to action on Thursday April 24th when they travel to Utica, NY to meet the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference game beginning at 4:00 PM. |
