FIGHTING TIGER LAX SHOOTS DOWN MVCC HAWKS 13-8 IN UTICA
After dropping their season opener to Finger Lakes Community College 17-16 in double overtime the SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team went to Utica, NY last night looking for the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks. The visiting Fighting Tigers trailed at the half by a 5-4 margin, Cobleskill then unleashed a double barreled attack in the second half to down the Hawks by a 13-8 margin. The Fighting Tigers evened their overall record at 1-1 on the season with a 1-0 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play.
“This was a nice win for us on the road, our offense continues to play smart and we’ve improved defensively since Saturday,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Tim Dobs. “In the opening two games our team has continuously played hard and refused to quit. We’ve seen some interesting officiating on the road lately but our kids haven’t let it affect their effort or intensity.”
The Fighting Tigers Glens Falls connection of freshman attackman Ryan Perkins, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, and freshman attackman Jon Mabb, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, did the offensive damage for the Fighting Tigers. Perkins tallied four goals and four assists while Mabb lit the night up for four goals to go with an assist on the evening. Senior midfielder Keith Colf, Penn Yan, NY, Penn Yan Academy, scored two goals and passed out two assists while Chad Kellman, Kingston, NY, Kingston High School, contributed a goal and an assist. The Cobleskill scoring was rounded out by freshman midfielder Joe Quintel, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, and freshman midfielder Matt Olsen, Saugerties, NY, Saugerties High School, who each had a goal in the victory.
Defensively, senior goalie Chuck Byrne, New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle High School, made six saves and directed the Fighting Tiger defense to allow the Hawks only 22 shots for the game.
The Fighting Tigers next open the home portion of their schedule on Thursday April 1st at 4:00 PM when they host the Hornets of Broome Community College. |
