FIGHTING TIGER LAX SWATS BCC HORNETS 13-8 IN BINGHAMTON
Broome Community College Head Coach Ed Warner is well acquainted with SUNY Cobleskill Head Lacrosse Coach Tim Dobs. Warner at one time served as the Dobs family babysitter when the Fighting Tiger mentor was a child. But not even that degree of familiarity could help his Hornets as an energized Fighting Tiger squad stormed to a 13-8 decision in Binghamton, NY last night. The Fighting Tigers start the season with a 2-0 record for the first time in over a decade.
“I tried to impress upon our guys that once the game gets going there’s not allot that I can do from a coaching standpoint to dictate the outcome and that everything depends on them doing the things that we work on in practice on a daily basis,” said Dobs. “We really stepped up as a unit today and executed flawlessly, especially on the defensive end where our individual defense was outstanding. I’m very proud of the way that we played tonight.”
Freshman goalie Ken Byrne, New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle High School, stopped 18 shots on net while the Cobleskill defensive unit of freshman Shawn Hale, Marcellus, NY, Marcellus High School, freshman Andee Dixon, Silver Springs NY, Letchworth High School, senior Chris Tambasco, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, freshman Jim McCain, Oceanside, NY, Oceanside High School, and senior Jason Bertoline, Peekskill NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, stifled the Hornet attack throughout the evening.
On the offensive end senior Adam Tegnander, Amsterdam NY, Amsterdam High School, continued his early season scoring barrage with five goals and three assists while freshman Keith Colf, Penn Yan, NY, Penn Yan Academy, added three goals and three assists. Senior Brett Scales, Canandaigua, NY, Canandaigua Academy, also notched two goals in the victory for the Fighting Tigers.
The Cobleskill scoring was rounded out by freshman Rich Roses, Islip Terrace NY, East Islip High School, with a goal and two assists, freshman Josh Salisbury, Schenectady, NY, Schalmont High School, with a goal, freshman Ken Brooks, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, who tallied a goal and freshman Chad Dyminski, Irondequoit, NY, Irondequoit High School, who contributed two assists.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday April 12th when they host Dean Junior College beginning at 1:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: The last time the Fighting Tigers defeated the Hornets was in April of 1994. The last time the Fighting Tigers won back-to-back contests to start the season was in 1990. Senior Adam Tegnander has scored nine goals and passed out three assists to lead the team in scoring. |
