COBLESKILL LAX OUTSHOOTS VISITING JEFFERSON CANNONEERS 14-12
The visiting Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College found that the SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team had plenty of firepower on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers unleashed an offensive barrage of their own to defeat their guests from the North Country by a 14-12 margin. With the victory Cobleskill moves to 2-6 overall on the season.
“I thought we played with a lot of heart and enthusiasm and that our defense did an excellent job of tightening up down the stretch which is what we needed for a victory. The boys have worked hard all year and really deserved this one,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Tim Dobs. “Individually, Keith Colf continues to amaze me with his ability to find ways to score.”
Senior midfielder Keith Colf, Penn Yan, NY, Penn Yan Academy, was a one-man siege gun against the Cannoneers blasting the visitors’ defenses for seven goals and two assists on the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Chad Kellman, Kingston, NY, Kingston High School, also was a major factor for the Fighting Tigers with three goals and an assist while freshman attackman Ryan Perkins, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, continued his outstanding rookie season with three goals. Freshman attackman Jon Mabb, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, rounded out the Cobleskill scoring with a goal and four assists on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers also received solid supporting efforts from freshman midfielder Matt Olsen, Saugerties, NY, Saugerties High School, with three assists and freshman midfielder Joe Quintel, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, with two assists.
In the net the goalkeeping tandem of senior Chuck Byrne, New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle High School, and freshman Kevin Winter, Baldwin, NY, Baldwin High School, stopped the Cannoneers attack just short of victory. Byrne stopped 16 shots on the day and Winter made seven saves in the victory.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Herkimer, NY, on Tuesday April 20th for a Mountain Valley Conference meeting with defending NJCAA Division III National Champions Herkimer Community College beginning at 4:00 PM. |
