FIGHTING TIGER MEN CAPTURE MACOMBER STARTING BLOCK CLASSIC
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s swimming & diving team opened the 2004-05 season in style as the defending Mountain Valley Conference Champions cruised to victory at the Donald Macomber Starting Block Classic posting a team score of 95 points in the meet.
Senior NJCAA All-American Jim Dergosits, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers capturing the 50 Yard Freestyle in a time of 23.85 seconds and the 100 Yard Butterfly in 53.31 seconds. Dergosits also placed third in the 100 Yard Backstroke in a time of 1:12.77. Fellow NJCAA All-American Rick Harbers, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, also was a key player for the Cobleskill placing fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:13.68 and third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a mark of 1:16.72.
Freshman distance specialist Shawn Susice, Carthage, NY, Carthage High School, won the 500 Yard Freestyle in a time of 6:18.94 while freshman Art Brarnard, Staten Island, NY, Michael J. Petrides School, placed second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:49.26, and sixth in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:29.77.
Cobleskill also receive strong showings from: freshman Dan Porras, Great Neck, NY, Great Neck North High School, also turned in a stellar opening effort for Cobleskill placing second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley in 2:31.82, freshman Joe Alessi, Hudson , NY, Hudson High School, who was second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:16.12, freshman Brian Fox, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, who was second in the 100 Yard Butterfly in 1:06.90 and from freshman diver Sam DeBoar, Mount Markham High School, who place second on the One Meter Board with a score of 183.40.
The Fighting Tiger relays were also in top form as the 200 Yard Medley Relay of Jim Dergosits, Rick Harbers, Brian Fox, and Shawn Susice placed second in a time of 1:52.63 and the 200 Yard Medley Relay of Jim Dergosits, Rick Harbers, Shawn Susice, and Danny Porras won the event in a time of 1:47.15.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Batavia, NY for the Genesee Community College Invitational on Saturday November 20th beginning at 11:00 AM.
