FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMING PLACES SECOND IN HOME OPENER
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving program posted a score of 80 points to place second in a field of three teams at the Fighting Tigers home opening triangular meet on Tuesday night at Cobleskill’s Bouck Natatorium in front of a capacity crowd.
“I was pleased with our effort tonight and think that we are going to post some fast times in the upcoming weeks,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mary Irving. “We definitely have potential and now it’s just a case of working hard in our workouts.”
Senior Amber Mortensen, Alpha, NJ, Warren Hills High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers tying for the meet’s high scoring honors with 19 individual points for the competition. Mortensen meet the national qualifying standard in the 500 yard Freestyle placing second in the event with a time of 6:52.88 and in the 100 yard Backstroke capturing the race in 1:24.70. The talented senior also won the 1000 yard Freestyle in a time of 15:12.24.
Freshman Shizuka Terada, Shiga, Japan, Moriyama Academy, also turned in a solid performance on the evening placing second in the 100 yard Freestyle meeting the national qualifying standard in a time of 1:10.28. Freshman Sue Sherman, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie High School, also met the national qualifying standard in the 100 yard Freestyle placing third with a time 1:11.20.
The Fighting Tigers also qualified their 200 yard Freestyle Relay for the national meet with Amber Mortensen, Shizuka Terada, Sue Sherman and freshman Aimee Mignier, Delhi, NY, Delaware Academy, placing second in a time of 2:09.34.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Kutztown, PA for the Kutztown State Golden Bear Invitational on Friday November 21st and Saturday November 22nd.
