FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMERS CAPTURE MORRISVILLE MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving team posted a team score of 307 points to surprise the competition at the Morrisville State College Meet in Morrisville, NY last night. The meet victory was the first of the year for the Fighting Tigers and signals to the rest of the Mountain Valley Conference that the Fighting Tigers should not be ignored at the league’s championship meet on Saturday February 7th in Delhi, NY.
Freshman Sara Sherman, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie High School, turned in a big meet for the aqua version of the Fighting Tigers capturing the 50 Yard Freestyle, 30.19, and the 100 Yard Freestyle, 1:07.56. Senior Amber Mortenson, Warren, NJ, Alpha High School, continued her strong campaign winning the 100 Yard Backstroke, 1:25.47, while placing second in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 7:01.21, and second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, 14:48.07. Freshman Emily Dickman, East Meredith, NY, also entered the winner circle in the meet winning the 100 Yard Individual Medley in 1:00.00.
Senior Barb Ridley, Fayetteville, NY, Janesville-Dewitt High School, once again did stellar work for the Fighting Tigers placing second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, 3:13.56, and second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, 1:35.28. Cobleskill also received a fine outing from freshman Shizuka Terada, Shiga, Japan, Moriyama High School, who was second in the 100 Yard Freestyle, 30.50, and third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, 1:37.28.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Delhi, NY on Saturday, January, 24th for the Delhi Tech Bronco Invitational, beginning at 1:00 PM.
