FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CAPTURES DELHI TECH MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s swimming & diving program continued their drive towards a fourth straight Mountain Valley Conference Championship at Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY last night capturing the championship of the Delhi Tech Mid-Week Invitational by posting a score of 84 points to better the field of four teams. In the women’s portion of the competition, Fighting Tiger women’s team scored 21 points to tie for third place in the four team field.
The Fighting Tiger men were paced by senior Brian Fox, Ballston Lake, NY, Shenendehowa High School, who captured first place finishes in the 100 Butterfly, 1:10.93, and the 100 Breaststroke, 1:18.01, and freshman Willie Cool, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, who won the 500 Yard Freestyle, 6:29.03, while finishing third in the 100 Freestyle, 1:01.38, and third in the 50 Freestyle, 27.86 seconds. Senior Danny Porras, Great Neck, NY, Great Neck North High School, also turned in a strong outing for Cobleskill winning the 100 Backstroke, 1:08.72, and placing second in the 50 Freestyle, 25.16 seconds.
Freshman Mike Sidoti, Pine Island, NY, Warwick High School, continued his strong rookie season placing second in the 200 Freestyle, 2:23.36, and fifth in the 100 Freestyle, 1:05.11. Senior Sam Deboer, West Winfield, NY, Mount Markham High School, once again was a big factor in the Fighting Tigers success placing second in the One Meter Dive with a score of 171.65 points and taking third in fourth in the 100 Freestyle, 1:01.68.
Cobleskill clinched the meet by dominating the relay events as the 200 Medley Relay of senior Kiel Wilcox, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, Sam Deboer, Danny Porras and Mike Sidoti placed first in a time of 2:03.09 and the 200 Freestyle Relay of Sam Deboer, Willie Cool, Mike Sidoti and Danny Porras captured the event with a mark of 1:48.79.
On the women’s side of the competition freshman Gabrielle Asay, Greenfield Center, NY, dominated the field winning the 50 Freestyle, 27.55 seconds, the 100 Breaststroke, 1:23.46, and the 100 Butterfly, 1:08.74, on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers will return to Delhi, NY on Saturday January 28th for the 2006 Delhi Tech Invitational beginning at 1:00 PM. |
