COBLESKILL SWIMMING & DIVING AT 2007 SUNY DELHI INIVTATIONAL

The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program ventured to Delhi, NY over the weekend to take part in the 2007 SUNY Delhi Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi at the Broncos’ home pool. The Cobleskill women posted a team score of 154 points to claim second place in a field of five teams while the Fighting Tiger men scored 137 points good for a third place finish in the five-team field.

The Fighting Tiger women continued to impress based on a strong showing in both relay events as the relay squad of senior Gabrielle Asay, Saratoga Springs, NY, freshman Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, freshman Meghan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, and freshman Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, won the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 10:13.43 and placed second in the 400 Medley Relay with a mark of 5:08.93.

Individually NJCAA All-American Gabrielle Asay continued her strong senior campaign winning the 200 Butterfly, 2:36.70, and placing third in the 100 Freestyle, 1:03.91. Ashley Richichi posted some solid efforts placing third in the 50 Freestyle, 32.72 seconds, and fourth in the 100 Freestyle, 1:10.78, while Megahn Holstead turned in another fine performance placing third the 500 Freestyle, 6:52.98, and fourth in the 1650 Freestyle, 25:09.22. Fellow rookie Kara Asberry also enjoyed a fine meet placing fifth in the 1650 Freestyle, 25:40.98, and third in the 200 Backstroke, 2:56.16.

The Cobleskill men were paced again by senior Matt Hatlee, Cobleskill, NY, Schoharie High School, who continued his impressive season by winning the 200 Breaststroke, 2:35.50, and placing second in the 200 Freestyle, 1:58.36. The tandem of freshman Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, and senior Willie Cool, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, made showings as Adamoschek placed second in the 50 Freestyle, 25.45 seconds, and eighth in the 100 Freestyle, 1:00.55, while Cool finished fourth in the 500 Freestyle in 6:38.01 and third in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 23:07.10. Senior Shawn Susice, Carthage, NY, Carthage High School, was also an individual scorer for the Fighting Tigers placing seventh in the 200 Freestyle, 2:27.95, and fourth in the 200 Backstroke, 2:46.41.

The Cobleskill relay team of  Willie Cool, Shawn Susice, Sam Adamoschek and Matt Hatlee placed third in the 400 Medley Relay, with a time of 4:40.90, and third the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 9:48.93.

The Fighting Tigers will next return to Herkimer, NY, for the 2007 General Invitational on Wednesday January 31st beginning at 6:00 PM.
