COBLESKILL SWIMMERS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON AT MVC MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program closed out the regular season on Saturday traveling to Delhi, NY for a Mountain Valley Conference Meet hosted by Delhi Tech. The Fighting Tiger men posted a team placed second overall with a team score of 69 points while the Cobleskill women finished second with a total of 71 points.
Senior Matt Hatlee, Cobleskill, NY, Schoharie High School, was the driving force for the Fighting Tiger men winning the 50 Freestyle, 23.04, the 100 Freestyle, 51.96, and the 100 Breaststroke, 1:11.03. Senior Willie Cool, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, turned in a strong performance in the distance events placing second in the 1650 Freestyle, 23:07.52, second in the 500 Freestyle, 6:34.90, and third in the 200 Freestyle, 2:29.25, while freshman Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, placed third in the 50 Freestyle, 25.50, and fifth in the 100 Freestyle, 1:00.69. Senior Shawn Susice, Carthage, NY, Carthage High School, also was a factor in the team’s finish with a second place finish in the 100 Backstroke, 1:16.69.
The Fighting Tiger women were once again led by senior NJCAA All-American Gabrielle Asay, Saratoga Springs, NY, who individually won the 400 Individual Medley, 5:35.35, and the 200 Backstroke, 2:34.65. Freshman distance swimmer Megahn Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, continued her strong swimming winning the 500 Freestyle, 6:47.00, and the 1650 Freestyle, 24:02.20. Cobleskill also received scoring performances from freshman Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, and freshman Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School. Asberry placed second in the 1650 Freestyle, 25:00.65, and the 100 Backstroke, 1:24.36, while Richichi finished second in the 200 Freestyle, 2:32.01, and third in the 100 Freestyle, 1:12.74.
The team also made a strong showing in both relay events as the squad of senior Gabrielle Asay, Kara Asberry, Meghan Holstead, and freshman Ashley Richichi won the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:06.13 and placed second in the 200 Medley Relay with a mark of 2:24.11.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to the 2007 NJCAA Northeastern District Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY from Friday February 9th thru Sunday February 12th. |
