COBLESKILL’S ASAY NAMED REGION III FEMALE-ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

The NJCAA Region III Service Bureau announced today that SUNY Cobleskill senior Gabrielle Asay, Saratoga Springs, NY, a member of the college’s women’s swimming & diving program has been named the NJCAA Region III Female Athlete-of-the-Week.

The 2006 NJCAA All-American posted an impressive week for the Fighting Tigers leading the program to its third invitational victory of the season at the Herkimer Community College Invitational hosted by Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY on Wednesday January 31st and then helping the team a second place finish at the SUNY Delhi Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday February 3rd. Asay individually won the 200 Freestyle, 2:18.96, and the100 Backstroke, 1:16.26, at Herkimer on Wednesday then on Saturday won the 400 Individual Medley, 5:35.35, and the 200 Backstroke, 2:34.65. Asay also swam legs on the victorious Cobleskill 200 Medley Relay, 2:23.66, and the team’s winning 200 Freestyle Relay, 2:06.22, at Herkimer as well as anchoring the team’s winning 200 Freestyle Relay, 2:06.13, at Delhi on Saturday.

The Fighting Tigers will next compete at the 2007 NJCAA Northeastern District Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY from Friday February 9th through Sunday February 11th.
