FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMING 3RD AT MACOMBER CLASSIC

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving program posted a team score of 174 points to place third in a field of five teams at the programs own 2007 Donald Macomber Starting Block Classic on Saturday.

Senior distance swimmer Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, led the Fighting Tiger attack placing second in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 23:33.81, third in the 500 Freestyle in 6:50.89 and sixth in the 200 Freestyle with a mark of 2:35.01. Freshman Tara Belcher, Philmont, NY, Taconic Hills High School, also continued to shine with third place finishes in the 200 Freestyle, 2:25.43, and the 200 Backstroke, 2:48.52.

Cobleskill also received strong performances from senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, who finished third in the 200 Butterfly in 3:21.92 and sixth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 3:25.67 and from senior Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, who placed fifth in the 1650 Freestyle with a mark of 24:34.61 and sixth in the 500 Freestyle in 7:00.98. Freshman Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, placed fourth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 3:15.27 while freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, finished fifth in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:11.16.

The Fighting Tigers also turned in scoring performances in the relay as the 400 Medley Relay of Tara Belcher, Kara Asberry, Chelsea Lee and Megan Holstead finished third in a time of 5:31.00 and the 400 Freestyle Relay of Tara Belcher, Veronica Wolfe, Chelsea Lee and Megan Holstead placed second with a time of 4:44.39.

On the men’s side Cobleskill placed fifth overall in the field of five teams with senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, placing eighth in the 100 Freestyle in a time of 1:00.18.

The Orange & Black will next be in action after the Thanksgiving break on Wednesday November 28th when they travel to Herkimer, NY to compete in the General Invitational with starting time scheduled for 6:00 PM.
