FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING 3RD AT DELHI INVITE

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving team posted a score of 181 points to place third in a field of eight teams at the 2007 SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers recorded seven individual and one relay NJCAA National Championship Qualifying Standard meeting performances at the event.

The senior distance swimmer Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, led the Fighting Tigers assault meeting NJCAA National Championship Qualifying Standards in three individual events on the day finishing: third in the 1650 Freestyle in a time of 23:55.61, third in the 500 Freestyle in 6:57.14 and fourth in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:35.19.

Freshman Tara Belcher, Philmont, NY, Taconic Hills High School, posted a national qualifying mark in the 200 Freestyle placing fourth in a time of 2:35.08 then placed third in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:22.30. Belcher’s fellow freshman Section II performer Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, met the national standard in the 200 Individual Medley finishing fifth in a time of 2:57.85 then placed sixth in the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:32.35 while freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, met the national standard in the 100 Freestyle placing eleventh in a time of 1:12.24 then came back to finish third in the 50 Freestyle in a time of 31.11 seconds. Senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, rounded out the individual national qualifying efforts meeting the national qualifying standard in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 7:13.66 to go with a fourth place finish in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 24:20.17.

In the relays, the Cobleskill 200 Freestyle Relay of Tara Belcher, Veronica Wolfe, Megan Holstead and senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, qualified for the nationals placing third in a time of 2:07.78. The Fighting Tiger 200 Medley Relay also competed on Saturday with the team of Tara Belcher, Veronica Wolfe, Chelsea Lee and Kara Asberry placing third overall in a time of 2:27.54.  

Cobleskill will conclude the 2007 portion of their schedule on Saturday December 8th when they travel to Herkimer, NY for the General Invitational beginning at 1:00 PM.
