FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMER COMPETE AT 2007 HERKIMER FALL INVY
The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program finished the 2007 portion of their schedule on Saturday traveling to Herkimer, NY to compete in the Herkimer Fall Invitational hosted by Herkimer Community College. The Fighting Tiger women posted a team score of 186 points to finish second on the day while the Cobleskill men’s team scored 36 points to finish third.
Senior distance swimmer Meagan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, continued her impressive season winning both the1000 Freestyle in a time of 14:09.30 and the 500 Freestyle, improving her NJCAA National Qualifying Time in the event, with a mark of 6:54.16. Freshman Tara Belcher, Philmont, NY, Taconic Hills High School, also was an event winner for Cobleskill taking the 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:22.93 then placed second in the 200 Freestyle meeting the national qualifying mark in the event with a time of 2:33.32.
Senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, placed second in the 500 Freestyle improving her national qualifying time with an effort of 7:08.36 then took a second place in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 14:09.57. Freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, also brought home a second place finish for the Fighting Tigers in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 30.62 seconds while freshman Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, placed third in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:31.65.
The Fighting Tigers also improved the national qualifying mark for the 200 Freestyle as the team of Tara Belcher, Ashley Richichi, Veronica Wolfe and Megan Holstead placed second in a time of 2:04.39.
On the men’s side, senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, placed second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 58.90 seconds, and third in the 50 Freestyle in 26.01 seconds to meet the NJCAA National Qualifying Standards in each event. Adamoschek also placed fourth for the Fighting Tigers in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:30.01,
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday January 19th when they travel to Buffalo, NY for the Erie Community College Invitational beginning at 1:00 PM.
