FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMERS RETURN TO POOL AT 2008 ERIE INVITE
The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program returned to the pool on Saturday traveling to chilly Buffalo, NY to compete in the 2008 Erie Community College Invitational to open the 2008 portion of their schedule. The Fighting Tiger women continued their impressive season posting a score of 147 points to place third in the six team field while the Cobleskill men finished in fifth place in a five team field posting a team total of three points on the day.
Senior distance swimmer Meagan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, improved her 500 Freestyle NJCAA National Qualifying Time in the event by placing sixth overall with a mark of 6:49.62 while also placing fifth in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 24:30.29 in the event. Holstead’s fellow senior teammate Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, also met the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard in the 200 Freestyle by placing ninth in the event with a time of 2:38.64 complimented by an eighth place finish in the 500 Freestyle with an effort of 7:19.22 and a sixth place finish in the 1650 Freestyle in 24:48.41.
Senior Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, turned in multiple individual scoring performances at the meet placing fourth in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 3:30.67, fifth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 3:20.56 and sixth in the 200 Individual Medley with a mark of 3:05.72: as did senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, who finished sixth in the 200 Breaststroke n 3:30.56 and seventh in the 200 Individual Medley in 3:06.45 and freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, who placed eighth in the 50 Freestyle in 30.94 seconds and ninth in the 100 Freestyle in 1:14.05.
Freshman diver Kayla Gibbs, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, came off the injury list to place fourth overall with a score of 111.10 points in the One Meter Diving competition in her first action of the season.
On the men’s side senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, turned in the team’s lone scoring performance placing tenth in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:26.11.
The Fighting Tigers are next in action on Wednesday January 23rd when they host the 2008 SUNY Cobleskill Invitational at the Bouck Hall Natatorium beginning at 6:00 PM. |
