FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMERS HOST 2008 SUNY COBLESKILL INVITE
Returning to the home waters of the Bouck Hall Natatorium on Wednesday evening the SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program made one of their strongest showings of the season to date posting NJCAA National Qualifying Standard performances in nine individual events and one team relay. In the team standings, the Fighting Tiger women posted a team score of 77 points to finish second in the meet while the Cobleskill men posted a score of 11 points to place third overall.
Senior distance swimmer Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, continued her outstanding season winning the 500 Freestyle by lowering her national seed time in the event to 6:49.57 and placing second in the 200 Freestyle hitting the national qualifying mark with a time of 2:21.83. Senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, was equally impressive placing second in the 500 Freestyle with a national qualifying time of 6:53.60 then lowering her national qualifying seed time to 2:35.18 in the 200 Freestyle placing third in the event.
The Orange & Black also received an impressive outing from senior Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, who met the national qualifying marks in the 200 Individual Medley by finishing third with a time of 2:57.09 and the 100 Breaststroke with a second place effort in a time of 1:30.54 while freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 30.33 seconds then came back to place third in the 100 Freestyle with a national qualifying effort of 1:09.31. Senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, also swam individually in the meet placing second in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:35.34 for the Fighting Tigers.
Cobleskill also won both women’s relay events on the evening as the 200 Medley Relay of Kara Asberry, Veronica Wolfe, Chelsea Lee and Megan Holstead opened the action by winning in a time of 2:27.15. The Fighting Tiger 200 Freestyle Relay of Kara Asberry, Ashley Richichi, Veronica Wolfe and Megan Holstead then closed the festivities by winning the race in a national qualifying standard meeting time of 2:07.96.
The Fighting Tiger men received a pair of national qualifying performances from senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY Canajoharie High School, who won the 100 Freestyle in a time of 59.23 seconds then placed third in the 50 Freestyle with a mark of 26.04 seconds.
Cobleskill is next in action on Saturday January 26th when they travel to the 2008 SUNY Delhi Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY with the first event scheduled to go off at 1:00 PM. |
