FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMER COMPETE AT DELHI MID-WEEK INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving team once again made the trip to Delhi, NY, this week this time for the 2008 SUNY Delhi Mid-Week Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi. The Fighting Tigers recorded a pair of second place finishes at the event as the Fighting Tiger women posted a score of 186 points on the night and the Cobleskill men finished with an overall total of 38 points for the meet.
Freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, posted a pair of victories in the short sprints winning the 100 Freestyle by meeting the national qualifying standard in the event with a time of 1:10.72 and capturing the 50 Freestyle with a time of 31.16 seconds. Senior distance ace Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, also posted a pair of victories for Cobleskill on the evening taking the 200 Freestyle in a national qualifying time of 2:33.05 then returning to take the 500 Freestyle by once again meeting the national qualifying standard with an effort of 6:43.89. Freshman Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, also was an event winner for the Orange & Black taking the 100 Breaststroke by meeting the national qualifying standard in the event with a time of 1:30.56 to go with a victory in the 100 Backstroke at 1:24.30.
Also turning in a strong performance in the meet was senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, placing second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 33.88 seconds and second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:18.05.
The Fighting Tiger women also captured both relay events as the 200 Medley Relay of Chelsea Lee, Kara Asberry, Megan Holstead and Veronica Wolfe won with a time of 2:34.11 while the Cobleskill 200 Freestyle Relay of senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, Veronica Wolfe, Kara Asberry, and Megan Holstead won the race with a national qualifying time of 2:12.74.
The Cobleskill men also received a winning performance in the 500 Freestyle from senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, taking the event with a time of 6:56.52 to go with a third place finish in the 50 Freestyle with a national qualifying standard meeting time of 26.36 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers are next in action on Saturday February 2nd when they travel to Batavia, NY to Compete in the Genesee Community College Invitational hosted by Genesee Community College beginning at 1:00 PM. |
