FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMER COMPETE AT 2008 DISTRICT/REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program traveled to Rochester, NY over the weekend to compete at the 2007-08 NJCAA Northeastern District/Region III Championship Meet hosted by Monroe Community College. The Fighting Tiger women posted a team score of 75 points to place sixth overall in the Northeastern District standings and fifth among NJCAA Region III programs. The Cobleskill men scored four points at the meet to finish ninth in the Northeastern District and seventh among NJCAA Region III programs.
Individually senior Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, turned in a strong performance at the event placing fourth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:29.52 and seventh in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:33.52 to meeting the NJCAA National Championship Qualifying Standards in each event. Also scoring and meeting national qualifying standards at the meet were: senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, who placed sixth in the 100 Backstroke in 1:22.86, freshman Veronica Wolfe, Copiague, NY, Copiague High School, who finished eighth in the 200 Freestyle in 2:40.64, freshman Chelsea Lee, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, who placed tenth in the 200 Individual Medley in a time of 2:59.84, senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, who finished eleventh in the 500 Freestyle in 6:59.51 and freshman diver Kayla Gillis, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, who placed sixth overall with 198.15 points.
The Fighting Tiger 200 Freestyle Relay of Veronica Wolfe, Megan Holstead, Ashley Richichi and Kara Asberry also met the national qualifying mark in the event placing fifth overall with a time of 2:07.02.
On the men’s side the sole Cobleskill scoring/national qualifying performance was record in the 50 Freestyle by senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, who placed ninth with a career best time of 25.33 seconds.
Fighting Tigers will next compete at the 2007-08 NJCAA National Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, FL from Wednesday March 5th through Saturday March 8th.
