FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMERS MAKE WAVES AT COUGAR INVITATIONAL
In their last regular season meet of the year the SUNY Cobleskill swimming & diving program made some serious waves at the 2008 Cougar Winter Classic hosted by Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers posted a number of national qualifying performances at the non-scoring meet.
Senior Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, continued her impressive campaign winning the 1650 Freestyle by improving her national qualifying seed time in the event by over a 1:20.67 with an impressive mark of 23:10.76 while additionally improving her national seed in the 500 Freestyle by placing fourth in a time of 6:38.93. Fellow senior Ashley Richichi, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, was also impressive placing fifth in the 50 Freestyle hitting the national qualifying standard in a time of 30.21 to go with meeting the national qualifying standard in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:59.05.
Cobleskill also received a pair of solid outings from senior Kara Asberry, Gainesville, NY, Letchworth High School, who won the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 6:45.46 and from freshman diver Kayla Gibbs, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, who placed third on the One Meter Board with a season best total of 125.80 points.
The Fighting Tiger men saw senior Sam Adamoschek, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, meet the national qualifying marks in the 50 Freestyle placing sixth with a time of 26.33 seconds and the 100 Freestyle by placing fourth in the event with a time of 59.29 seconds. Adamoschek also turned in a seventh place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:19.16.
The Orange & Black will next head into post season competition when they head to the 2008 Northeastern District/NJCAA Region III Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, from Friday February 15th thru Sunday February 17th. |
