FIGHTING TIGER SWIMMERS CAPTURE MORRISVILLE STATE INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s swimming & diving program captured their second consecutive invitational championship of the season posting a team score of 89 points to win the 2006 Mustang Mid-Week Invitational hosted by Morrisville State College in Morrisville, NY. The Fighting Tiger women also competed in the meet scoring 32 points on the evening to place second in the competition.
Freshman Willie Cool, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, led the way for the Fighting Tiger men winning the 500 Freestyle, 7:06.98, and placing third in the 100 Freestyle, 1:00.59, and fourth in the 50 Freestyle, 27.84 seconds. Freshman Mike Sidotti, Pine Island, NY, Warwick Valley High School, won the 100 Backstroke, 1:16.77, and placed third in the 200 Freestyle, 2:34.58, while Senior Brian Fox, Ballston Lake, NY, Shenendehowa High School, won the 100 Butterfly, 1:09.83, and third in both the 50 Freestyle, 27.59 seconds, and the 100 Breaststroke, 1:18.58.
Cobleskill also received strong efforts from senior Danny Porras, Great Neck, NY, Great Neck North High School, who was second in the 100 Butterfly, 1:09.95, and second in the 50 Freestyle, 25.77 seconds, and senior Kiel Wilcox, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who finished second in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:16.91. Senior Sam Deboer, West Winfield, NY, Mount Markham High School, also turned in a second place showing for the Fighting Tigers in the 100 Individual Medley with a time of 2:09.50.
The Fighting Tigers secured the meet by sweeping the relay events as the 200 Medley Relay team of Mike Sidoti, Danny Porras, Kiel Wilcox and Sam Deboer won their event in a time of 2:02.17 and the 200 Freestyle Relay of Sam Deboer, Willie Cool, Danny Porras and Mike Sidoti were victorious in a time of 1:51.26.
On the women’s side freshman Gabrielle Asay, Greenfield Center, NY, continued her strong rookie campaign winning the 200 Individual Medley, 2:36.86, the 100 Freestyle, 1:02.76, and the 100 Backstroke, 1:14.58. Senior Kim Pace, Hopewell Junction, NY, Arlington High School, was also a factor for Cobleskill placing third in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:36.41, third in the 100 Freestyle, 1:20.98, and fourth in the 200 Freestyle, 2:58.41.
Cobleskill will next travel to Delhi, NY on Saturday February 4th for the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Championships hosted by Delhi Tech beginning at 11:00 AM. The Cobleskill men are the three-time defending league champions entering the meet. |
