FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMING THIRD AT GCC DISTANCE INVITE
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving team continued their successful 2004 campaign with a third place finish at the Genesee Community College Distance Invitational in Batavia, NY over the weekend.
The Fighting Tiger senior tandem of Barb Ridley, Fayetteville, NY, Janesville-Dewitt High School, and Amber Mortenson, Warren, NJ, Alpha High School, continued to do the heavy work for the Fighting Tigers. Ridley placed third in the 200 Breaststroke in 3:31.94 while Mortenson was fourth in the 200 Freestyle in 2:37.09 and fourth in the 200 Backstroke in 7:04.89.
Freshman Shizuka Terada, Shiga, Japan, Moriyama High School, turned in the best individual performance of the meet for the Fighting Tigers placing second in the 100 Backstroke in 1:38.47 to go with a fifth place effort in the 100 Freestyle in 1:07.91. Freshman Sara Sherman, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie NY, continued her strong “rookie” season with a fourth place finish in the 100 Freestyle, 1:07.88, and a fifth place finish in the 200 Freestyle, 2:37.09. Freshman Aimee Mignier, Delhi, NY, Delaware Academy, also brought home a third place finish for Cobleskill in the 100 Backstroke in 1:44.17.
The Fighting Tigers also picked up valuable points in diving where freshman Emily Dickman, East Meridith, NY, was third with 101.45 points and freshman Casey Brandon, Catskill, NY, Catskill High School, was fourth with 59.05 points.
The Cobleskill 400 Individual Medley Relay of Venessa Holzmann, Catskill, NY, Aimee Mignier, Barb Ridley and Amber Mortenson placed third with a time of 6:02.03.
The Fighting Tigers next travel to Delhi, NY for the Mountain Valley Conference Championships to be held on Saturday February 7th at Delhi Tech.
