FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SWIMMING 4TH AT 2004 NJCAA NORTHEAST DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s swimming & diving team posted a score of 174 points to place fourth in a field of nine teams at the 2004 NJCAA Northeast District Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY over the weekend.
Senior Sunny Porras, Great Neck, NY, Great Neck North High School, won the Region III Individual Championship in the 50 Yard Freestyle in a time of 23.02 seconds to earn All-Region III honors for the Fighting Tigers. Porras also placed second in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 55.63 seconds and third in the 100 Yard Freestyle in 52.57 seconds. Fellow senior Justin Dufel, Fonda, NY, Fonda-Fultonville High School, also turned in an outstanding individual performance for Cobleskill placing second in the 200 Yard Breastroke in 2:28.41 and third in the 200 Yard Individual Medley in 2:11.01.
Fighting Tiger freshman Rick Harbers, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, continued his strong rookie season placing fourth in the 100 Yard Freestyle in 52.67 seconds, fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle, 1:59.99, and sixth in the 50 Yard Freestyle in 24.37 seconds. Senior distance specialist Matt Turner, Stoney Point NY, North Rockland High School, also contributed for the Fighting Tigers placing fifth in the 1650 Yard Freestyle in a time of 21:38.80.
The Fighting Tiger relay teams also turned in strong showings as the 200 Freestyle Yard Relay of Justin Dufel, Sunny Porras, Rick Harbers and freshman Jim Dergosits, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, placed third overall with a time of 1:33.25 and the 200 Yard Individual Medley of Justin Dufel, Sunny Porras, Matt Turner and Adam Jurcynski, Schenectady, NY Guilderland High School, also finished third in a time of 1:53.72.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to the 2004 NJCAA Swimming & Diving National Championships hosted by Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, Florida from Monday March 1st thru Saturday March 6th. |
