FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S SWIMMING PLACES 6TH AT 2004 NJCAA NORTHEAST REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s swimming & diving team posted a total score of 84 points to bring home an impressive sixth place showing in the field of eleven teams from the 2004 NJCAA Northeast Region Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY over the weekend.
The Fighting Tigers were paced by senior Amber Mortensen, Alpha, NJ, Warren Hills High School, who placed fifth in the 500 Yard Freestyle in a time of 6:50.09 and freshman Sara Sherman, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie High School, who placed fifth in the 50 Yard Freestyle in a time of 29.75 seconds. Fighting Tiger divers also finished the season strong with freshman Emily Dickman, East Meridith, NY, placing fifth on the One Meter Board with 146.90 points and freshman Casey Brandon, Catskill, NY, Catskill High School, finishing sixth on the One Meter Board with 89.10 points.
In the relays the Fighting Tiger 200 Yard Medley Relay of Sarah Sherman, senior Barb Ridley, Fayetteville, NY, Janesville-Dewitt High School, Shizuka Terada, Shiga, Japan, Moriyama High School, and Venessa Holzmann, Catskill, NY, Catskill High School, placed fifth in a time of 2:24.23 and the 200 Freestyle Relay of Amber Mortensen, Sara Sherman, Shizuka Terada and Venessa Holzmann finished sixth with a mark of 2:01.65.
The sixth place finish at the district championships represents one of the Fighting Tigers best seasons since the program was reinstated in 1995. Cobleskill also captured the 2004 Mountain Valley Conference Championships during the year the program’s first MVC title since 1999. |
