IRVING PROMOTED TO COBLESKILL ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
SUNY Cobleskill Director of Athletics Kevin McCarthy announced today that Fighting Tiger Head Athletic Trainer Mary Irving has been promoted to the position of Associate Athletic Director at the college. Irving will also become the Fighting Tiger Head Men & Women’s Swim Coach effective immediately and continue to teach courses in the college’s Physical Education program.
“I am very pleased that we were able to extend this opportunity to Mary and allow her to continue her professional development with us,” said McCarthy. “She will be primarily dealing with athletic eligibility and facility management. I also expect this move will have a positive impact on our swimming program. We have hired a trainer to assume Mary’s former duties and will be making a formal announcement about that in the near future.”
A native of Rensselaer, NY, Irving graduated from Rensselaer Junior/Senior High School in 1983 moving on to Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences/Physical Education in 1985. While at Hudson Valley, Irving was a member of the women’s basketball and softball programs.
Irving continued her education at SUNY Cortland in Cortland, NY where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education in 1987. She earned her National Athletic Training Association Certification through SUNY Brockport in Brockport, NY in 1990. Irving would later earn her Master’s Degree in Recreation Administration through George Williams College/Aurora University in Aurora, IL in 1998.
She started her professional career in 1990 at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY as Assistant Athletic Trainer. She moved to St. John Fisher in 1991 as Head Athletic Trainer/Head Equipment Manager and stayed until 1999 when she became SUNY Cobleskill’s Head Trainer.
“I look forward to the new challenges ahead and am excited about the future,” said Irving about her new position.
