KLOPFER NAMED FIGHTING TIGER ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK
The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that senior Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, a member of the men’s tennis team has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.
The senior co-captain led the Fighting Tigers to a pair of wins to open the season this week in victories over visiting NJCAA Region XXI power Holyoke Community College by a 6-3 margin on Monday afternoon at the Cobleskill Tennis Complex then helping the team post a 6-3 road win on Tuesday over SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY in the team’s 2008 Mountain Valley Conference season opener.
Klopfer dominated his singles matches at the number three singles slot for the Orange & Black winning versus Holyoke on Monday by a 10-5 score in a pro-set then winning versus SUNY Dehli in straight sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 on Tuesday. The talented senior also teamed with freshman Zak Kraehmer, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, for a pair of victories at the number two doubles position defeating Holyoke by a score of 10-7 in a pro-set and then defeating the opposition from Delhi by an 8-2 margin also in a pro-set.
The Fighting Tigers are currently 2-0 overall on the season with a 1-0 mark versus league completion and will return to action on Monday April 7th when they host the defending Mountain Valley Conference Champion Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks at the Cobleskill Tennis Complex with first serve scheduled for 4:00 PM.
