TASSONE RESIGNS AS SUNY COBLESKILL TENNIS COACH
SUNY Cobleskill Head Men and Women’s Tennis Coach John Tassone has resigned as the Fighting Tigers head coach effective immediately to accept the position Rochester Institute of Technology in facilities management. Tassone helmed the Fighting Tiger program for the past two seasons while serving as a Technical Assistant in the Cobleskill Athletic Department.
“This was a great opportunity for John and while we’re going to miss having him in our program, we are certainly happy for him professionally,” said SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Director Kevin McCarthy. “John did a great job bringing tennis to the local community and of strengthening our ties with the USTA.”
With Tassone’s departure, McCarthy will take over as the interim Women’s Tennis Coach for the 2005 season and Fighting Tiger Head Volleyball Coach Scott Hill will assume the reigns of the Cobleskill men’s program in the spring for the 2006 season. McCarthy is a United States Tennis Association certified instructor and has taught beginning and advanced tennis courses in the college’s Physical Education program while Hill is a former competitive player competing for Medfield High School in Rochester, NY as well as a two-year stint as a member of Team Rochester an elite junior program during that time.
The Fighting Tiger women will open the 2005 season on Saturday September 3rd versus the Tribunes of Monroe Community College at the SUNY Cobleskill Tennis Complex beginning at 1:00 PM. Admission to the campus community and the general public is free. |
