FIGHTING TIGER INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SHINES AT 2006 RIT INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill track & field program heated things up in cold western New York on Thursday as the Fighting Tigers men’s and women’s programs continued to be impressive in the early part of the season at the 2006 RIT Indoor Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Cobleskill established five new program records and won eight events in the non-scoring meet versus the six team field.
“We set five program records and won eight events which I think is really excellent considering the level of competition,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “What I’m most pleased with was the wide number of events that we excelled in and the overall depth we’ve been displaying. Our relays were exceptional today and I think we had some excellent individual accomplishments in our field events. If we can stay healthy and stay focused we can have a very productive season.”
The Fighting Tiger women’s relays continued to flex their collective muscles as the 4 X 200 Meter team of senior Teresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, freshman Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, freshman Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, and freshman Daneja Rabouin, Utica, NY, Thomas R. Proctor High School, captured their event in a school record time of 1:52.24 while the Cobleskill 4 X 400 Meter Relay of team of Teresa Cox, Regina Morgan, Daneja Rabouin, and freshman Keisha Doldron, Brooklyn, NY, Collective Fellowship High School, placed fourth in a school record time of 1:52.24.
Individually Regina Morgan won the 400 Meters in a time of 1:02.97 and Teresa Cox placed fourth in the 800 Meters establishing a new program record in the event with a time of 2:38.23. Cobleskill received multiple standout efforts from: Daneja Rabouin who finished fifth in the 55 Meters with a time of 7.89 seconds and sixth in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:06.09 and from Jennifer Villanova who placed fourth in the Pole Vault with an effort of 8’11 ½” and fourth in the Long Jump with a mark of 15’9”. Senior thrower Stephanie Schumann, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, was also a factor for the Fighting Tigers placing sixth in the Shot Put with a put of 33’ ½” and eighth in the Weight Throw with a toss of 35’ 5 ¼”. In the long distance events freshman Sarah Furman, West Berne, NY, Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, finished second overall in the 3000 Meters in a time of 11:45.02.
The Fighting Tiger men also used the relay events to make a powerful statement as the 4 X 200 Meter Relay of freshman Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, freshman Ian Jackson, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, freshman David Suarez, Hauppauge, NY, Hauppauge High School, and senior Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, won the
event with a program record time of 1:33.67 and the 4 X 400 Meter Relay of Chris Dietl, Ian
Jackson, senior Chris Burke, Spencerport, NY, Spencerport High School and freshman Carlton Wildman, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, won their event with a time of 3:33.30.
In the field events senior Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, placed third in the Weight Throw with a mark of 46’4” and seventh in the Shot Put with an effort of 38’7” and freshman jumper Kevin Amilcar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, won the Long Jump with an effort of 22’5” while placing fifth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 39’9 ¾”. Senior Brian Keefe, Deposit, NY, Deposit High School, also turned in a seventh place finish in the Triple Jump with a mark of 38’5 ½” for the Fighting Tigers.
On the track Carlton Wildman won the 400 Meters establishing a new program record in the event with a time of 52.54 seconds while freshman Joe Rosally, Ardsley, NY, Ardsley High School, finished fourth in the 55 Meters in a time of 6.79 seconds and fourth in the 200 Meters at 24.13 seconds. Freshman Abdou Seck, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton, NY, placed sixth in the 200 Meters with a time of 24.44 seconds while David Suarez placed third in the 55 Meters with a time of 6.72 seconds.
In the distance events Cobleskill dominated the 800 Meters as Essaha Jallow finished second with a time of 2:02.66, freshman Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, placed third in a time of 2:03.51, Chris Dietl was fourth in 2:03.72 and Ian Jackson was fifth with a time of 2:05.71. In the 3000 Meters freshman Kyle Kunes, Geneva, NY, Geneva High School, returned to his native part of the state to finish sixth with a time of 10:07.96 while at 5000 meters senior NJCAA All-American Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, placed seventh with a time of 16:45.66 in his indoor debut.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action after the semester break when they travel to Hamilton, NY for the prestigious Class of ’32 Invitational hosted by Colgate University on Saturday January 27th beginning at 9:00 AM. |
