FIGHTING TIGER TRACK & FIELD OPENS OUTDOOR SEASON AT DICK SHEA INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill track & field program opened the 2007 outdoor campaign in style with four NJCAA Division III National Championship Qualifying performances at the Dick Shea Invitational hosted by the United State Military Academy at West Point in West Point, NY on Saturday.
Freshman distance runner April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, won the meet’s 10,000 Meter Run posting a national qualifying time of 42:24.86 in the process. Senior Tereasa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, will also be returning to the NJCAA National Championships this May after meeting the qualifying standard in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:42.66.
The Cobleskill men received a national qualifying performance from senior NJCAA All-American distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who placed fifth in the 10,000 Meters with a time of 34:14.85. Freshman jumper Kevin Almicar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, will join Levens at the National Championships after placing fourth in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.61 meters. Amilcar also placed sixth in the High Jump for the Fighting Tigers with an effort of 1.74 meters.
The Fighting Tigers are tentatively scheduled to compete at SUNY Delhi on Wednesday March 28th at 3:00 PM in a non-scoring qualifying meet weather permitting. |
