COBLESKILL MEN’S TRACK FINISHES STRONG AT MUHLENBERG INVITE

On Saturday the SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team made another strong statement with eight individuals and one relay team qualifying for the NJCAA Division III National Championships at the 2008 Muhlenberg Invitational hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. The Fighting Tigers had entered the meet ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.

On the track, freshman hurdler Jon Figueroa, North Branch, NY, Sullivan West High School, turned in a pair of NJCAA National Qualifying Standard meeting performances by placing sixth in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.66 seconds and finishing seventh in the 400 Meter Hurdles in a time of 59.23 seconds while freshman Brad Boice, Cambridge, NY, Cambridge High School, lowered his national seed time in the 400 Meters to 51.46 seconds.

In the mid-distance/distance events Cobleskill was active with a pair of national qualifying performances at 800 Meters with freshman Richard Garnett, Yonkers, NY, Roosevelt High School, finishing eighth overall with a time of 1:59.80 and freshman Joe Singer, Onteora, NY, Onteora High School, meeting the national qualifying mark with a time of 2:04.09. The Fighting Tigers also received a national qualifying performance in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase from freshman Kevin Wippel, Pine Bush, NY, Pine Bush High School, who placed third overall in a time of 10:33.51.

In the field events, Cobleskill received a pair of national qualifying performances with freshman jumper/sprinter Aldin Gomez, Westbury, NY, Westbury High School, placing second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 44’11” and freshman pole vaulter/multi-event performer Kameron Whittmeyer, Yorkshire, NY, Pioneer High School, placing tenth with a vault of 12’3 ½”.

The Fighting Tiger 4 X 800 Meter Relay of Richard Garnett, Joe Singer, freshman Nick O’Neil, Ballston Spa, NY, Ballston Spa High School, and senior Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, finished ninth overall meeting the national standard with a time of 8:31.45.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 12th when they travel to Middletown, CT
 for the 2008 Wesleyan College Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College beginning at 10:00 AM.
