FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SWEEPS NORTH COUNTRY TO CLOSE 2007 SEASON
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team closed the 2007 season on Sunday by sweeping visiting North Country Community College at Fighting Tiger Park by scores of 15-7 and 8-3 in Region III action. With the victories the Fighting Tigers close out the campaign with a 6-16 overall record.
In the opener senior centerfielder Sharon Fitzgerald, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, pounded the visiting Saints for six RBI going 2-for-3 in the contest with a third inning bases loaded triple and a fourth inning two-run double to put the game out of reach of the visitors for Saranac Lake, NY. Senior shortstop Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, also played a major role in the victory going 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and four runs scored.
In the finale, the Fighting Tigers received solid efforts from senior first baseman Michelle Radley, Averill Park, NY, Averill Park High School, who went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and from senior second baseman Kaitlyn Myhre, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, who also went 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI. Sharon Fitzgerald also continued to hit for the Fighting Tigers posting a 1-for-4 effort to close the season with a 10 game hitting streak and an impressive .679 batting average.
On the mound for Cobleskill freshman pitcher Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY Riverhead High School, went the distance in both games to record the victories striking out four Saint hitters on the afternoon while allowing only two walks in 12 innings of work.
“This was a nice way for us to end the season for our seniors with a sweep,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mary Hamm. “We really didn’t have any major letdowns during the game and we hit the ball very well. I also thought that Anastasia Yakaboski and our catchers did a great job of keeping the North Country hitters off-balance from the end of the first game through the entire second game.” |
