FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH CLINTON CC
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team posted a split versus visiting NJCAA Region III foe Clinton Community College from Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday. In the friendly confines of Fighting Tiger Park the home team took the first game by a 12-9 margin, before surrendering the second game by a 17-8 score. The split puts the Fighting Tigers’ season record at 2-10 on the year.
Trailing by a 9-7 margin heading into the bottom of the sixth inning; the Orange & Black exploded for five runs to wrestle the affair, from the visiting Cougars. Cobleskill pitcher Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, then worked a scoreless seventh inning to secure the victory. Yakaboski also went 3-for-4 in the game including a two-out single in the sixth that drove in the run that put the Fighting Tigers ahead for good. Senior first baseman Michelle Radley, Averill Park, NY, Averill Park High School, continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-5 with two RBI while senior shortstop Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored in the victory. Senior Right fielder Leah Trombley, Chazy, NY, Northeast Clinton High School, was also a major part of the offense going 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI.
In the second game, the Fighting Tigers fell victim to bases-on-balls walking 15 Cougar hitters which led to an insurmountable early lead. Kim McMillen went 2-for-2 in the contest with an RBI and senior right fielder Sharon Fitzgerald, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI for Cobleskill. Anastasia Yakaboski stretched her current hitting streak to eight games going 1-for-4 on the day with a run scored.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Friday April 27th when they travel to Herkimer, NY to meet the Generals of Herkimer Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
