FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SWEEPS SUNY DELHI IN MVC DOUBLEHEADER
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team used the strong right arm of freshman pitcher Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, to defeat SUNY Delhi in a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday at the Broncos home field in Delhi, NY by scores of 9-5 and 11-2. The victories push the Fighting Tigers season record to 4-12 on the year with a 3-7 conference record.
In the opener the rookie hurler went the distance on the mound while at the plate slugged a single, double and triple as part of a 3-for-4 three runs scored performance. Senior rightfielder Sharon Fitzgerald, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, also continued to pound the ball for the Fighting Tigers going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI in the game.
In the nightcap Sharon Fitzgerald continued to carry the Orange & Black going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI on the afternoon while freshman catcher Kayla Milnyzuk, Northville, NY, Northville High School, also went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI on the afternoon. Anastasia Yakaboski limited the Broncos to only two hits from the mound and equaled that total at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
“We got a very solid pitching performance from Anastasia today especially in the second game with the two-hitter and I think this really was our best hitting game of the year,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mary Hamm. “Today was a case of where we limited our errors, both physical and mental, and played very fundamentally solid softball with a number of different people making contributions.”
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Tuesday May 1st when they host Mohawk Valley Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM at Fighting Tiger Park.
